For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been having a few issues with my PICC line. It started leaking fluid for no clear reason. Because of that, the dressing had to be changed every day or every other day, which isn’t ideal when it comes to keeping things sterile and bacteria-free.
At first, the team thought we might just replace the external part of the line, but there was a chance the problem would happen again. So, the best option was to remove the old PICC line and place a new one in my other arm.
The procedure went really smoothly, and they’re trying a different type of dressing this time to help prevent any future leakage.
The new line was fitted at the University Hospital of Ayr, in the Ballochmyle Suite, a peaceful space made even more special by a beautiful sculpture called Healing by Malcolm Robertson.
On the way there I was soaking all the sun and vitamin C I could!
Une nouvelle ligne PICC et un peu de “Guérison”
Depuis quelques semaines, j’avais quelques soucis avec ma ligne PICC, elle fuyait sans raison apparente. À cause de cela, il fallait changer le pansement tous les jours ou un jour sur deux, ce qui n’est pas idéal pour éviter les risques de bactéries.
Au départ, l’équipe pensait qu’on pourrait simplement remplacer le “câble” externe, mais il y avait des chances que le problème se reproduise. La meilleure option a donc été de retirer l’ancienne ligne et d’en poser une nouvelle sur l’autre bras.
La procédure s’est très bien passée, et ils testent cette fois un type de pansement différent pour éviter toute nouvelle fuite.
La nouvelle ligne a été posée à l’hôpital universitaire d’Ayr, dans la Ballochmyle Suite, un lieu apaisant, rendu encore plus spécial par une magnifique sculpture de Malcolm Robertson intitulée Healing (“Guérison”).
