Hello everyone
I thought I’d share a little update about what’s happening today and over the next few days.
Today I’m getting a platelet and blood transfusion to give me a bit of a boost before this afternoon’s intrathecal chemotherapy. That means the doctors will deliver chemotherapy directly into the fluid around my spinal cord during a lumbar puncture.
First, they’ll take a small sample of spinal fluid to send to the lab to confirm that no leukaemia cells have spread to my brain or spinal cord, and we’re feeling very confident that everything will look clear. Then they’ll inject the chemotherapy directly into the spinal fluid. This will be done in my bedroom, with the beautiful view from my window and my musical playlist.
I shouldn’t expect too many side effects, maybe just a bit of a headache and apparently, the consultant’s best remedy for that is a full-caffeine Coca-Cola! I like him already!
Tomorrow I’ll receive my bi-weekly antifungal treatment, and then on Friday, we’ll continue with my regular chemotherapy and steroid routine, just as we’ve done the past two Fridays.
Next week will step things up a little, as we’ll be introducing a new chemotherapy treatment three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for the next two weeks. That will be on top of the usual Friday treatment, so things will get a bit more intense.
That said, my body has been coping with everything so far with such strength, resilience, and grace that I’m confident it will handle this next stage just as well.

Chimiothérapie intrathécale

je voulais vous donner des nouvelles sur ce qui se passe aujourd’hui et dans les prochains jours.
Aujourd’hui, je recois donc des plaquettes et des globules rouges pour me donner un petit coup de boost, car cet après-midi, j’ai une nouvelle chimio intrathécale.
Une injection intrathécale, c’est quand le médicament est injecté directement dans le liquide qui entoure le cerveau et la moelle épinière. Pour moi, cela se fera dans ma chambre, avec la belle vue par la fenêtre et ma musique. J’ai entierement confiance en l’équipe qui s’occupe de ce geste.
Avant l’injection, ils vont prélever un échantillon de liquide céphalo-rachidien pour l’envoyer au laboratoire et confirmer que les cellules leucémiques ne se sont pas propagées dans le cerveau ou la moelle épinière. Nous sommes plutôt confiants que ce n’est pas le cas. Ensuite, ils injecteront directement le médicament dans le liquide. Je ne devrais pas avoir beaucoup d’effets secondaires, peut-être juste un peu de maux de tête. Mon médecin a suggéré une Coca-Cola bien corsée pour la caféine si cela arrive!
Demain, je recevrai mon traitement antifongique bi-hebdomadaire, et vendredi nous reprendrons la routine habituelle de chimiothérapie et de corticoïdes que je fais depuis quelques vendredis.
La semaine prochaine sera un peu plus intense, car ils vont introduire une nouvelle chimio trois fois par semaine (lundi, mercredi et vendredi) pendant deux semaines, en plus du traitement habituel du vendredi. Donc ça va être un peu plus chargé.
Mais honnêtement, mon corps a jusqu’à présent géré tout cela avec une force et une résilience incroyables, donc je suis confiante que tout se passera bien.
